Hello world! I'm Alvaro Navarro, a Senior Developer Advocate based in Madrid, Spain. My focus is on helping developers understand, integrate, and enjoy Vonage's Network API. How cool is that?
I began my coding quest in the late 80s, learning BASIC with my beloved IBM 8088 and DOS surrounded by Masters of the Universe and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures. Years later, my parents bought me a new computer, a Pentium 100Mhz with 8 Mb of RAM. Day of the Tentacle and Monkey Island, here I come!
Right after graduating from university, I joined Airbus as a software engineer, developing real-time software in C/C++ and Ada. That was my first contact with the real world (thank you, Matrix): meetings, deadlines, real production code, and remote debugging. Today, I don't have to worry about manually allocating memory anymore since I mostly code in Python, JavaScript, and Go.
For over seven years, I have been passionate about Developer Relations, Developer Experience, and APIs. I've sprinkled the DevRel magic at companies like Amadeus and Spotify, turning code into relations and APIs into adventures! You might have seen me talking about APIs, Developer Experience, and coding in conferences like API the Docs, API Days, Codemotion, or NordicAPIs.
Outside my DevRel duties, I enjoy collecting and playing retro games, particularly Japanese titles for platforms like Super Famicom, Dreamcast, and Neo-Geo CD. I'm a big fan of comics, and I have a big collection at home. Attending sci-fi and horror festivals, live music shows, or board games have been among my favorite ways to break the monotony of routine.
I'm excited to bring my experience and enthusiasm to the Vonage community. Let's build something incredible together!
